Hakan Memorial Nordic Fest at 10 a.m. today

The third annual Hakan Memorial Nordic Fest and Wiley Coyote Chase will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center. The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club awards presentation for Nordic skiers will follow at 2 p.m.

Donations will be accepted for the Hakan Fund, which provides scholarships to emerging elite Nordic skiers to help defray their travel expenses to competitions such as the Junior Olympics and World Junior Championships.

The theme for this year's festival is "Rodeo Vikings," and the best costumes will earn season passes to the touring center for the winners. There also will be gifts for the first 100 youngsters to arrive as well as fun activities including bicycle bumps, a tennis ball biathlon, an egg hunt for the children and open trail skiing.

A barbecue lunch will be served for $5.

'Something's Afoot' tickets are on sale for $5 to $8

The Craig Performing Arts Project is selling tickets for the upcoming play "Something's Afoot," a murder mystery musical. Purchase tickets at Moffat County Library or buy them at the door. Tickets are $5 for seniors and children and $8 for adults. The performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and April 9 at the Moffat County High School Auditorium.

BLM signing up vendors and equipment for fires

The Bureau of Land Management is signing up vendors and equipment for the upcoming fire season. Individuals and businesses that have equipment and are interested in getting signed up for emergency equipment rental agreements, and vendors interested in providing meals for firefighters, should contact Scott Wintemute at 826-5027 or swintemu@blm.gov before April 30.

Steamboat's Genuine Prom at 6:30 Wednesday

Steamboat's Genuine Prom is from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel. The cost is $30 per ticket.

The deadline for the Steamboat Genuine Prom Hospitality Award nominations was Wednesday.

The Genuine Prom is designed to honor employees who have worked hard through the winter. The event includes dinner, the hospitality awards and dancing to the Nacho Men. Call Gina at 879-0882, ext. 205, for nomination forms or to reserve tickets.

Volunteers needed for middle school study club

Volunteers are needed for Steamboat Springs Middle School's after school Study Club. The program runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Any help is appreciated. Call 879-1058 for information.

Arts council seeks entries for SummerArt 2005

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking entries for SummerArt 2005, a multimedia, juried fine art exhibit, to be held at the Depot Art Center. The entry deadline is May 13. Exhibit dates are July 1 to Aug. 28. For a prospectus, e-mail beth@steamboatspringsarts.com.
