The Hayden volleyball team dropped a four-game match to Paonia on Friday.
The Eagles defeated the Tigers, 25-19, 26-24, 25-27, 25-23, in a tightly contested contest in Paonia.
Nicole Poulos led the way for the Eagles with 11 kills. Casey Simpson had 14 digs and eight assists. Lacey Heinritz had 11 assists for Paonia, as well.
Hayden incorporates the double setter offense. Juniors Lauren Branstetter and Mariah Doolin combined for 26 assists in the four-game loss for the Tigers.
Senior Jamie Waugh led Hayden with seven kills. Sophomore Jessica Martin had three kills. Coach Becky Burdick moved Martin from junior varsity to varsity before the Paonia match.
"That was pretty impressive for her first match," Burdick said of Martin.
Senior Margie Jones had several important blocks for the Tigers.
The loss to Paonia was Hayden's fourth since beating Soroco on Sept. 10.
Hayden dropped a match to Little Snake River out of Baggs, Wyo., on Sept. 16; 25-13, 25-17, 25-13, in a match which the Tigers didn't play well.
The Tigers hosted Rangely on Sept. 17 but lost the league match, 25-12, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20.
There were no statistics from the Rangely or Little Snake River matches.
Hayden will look to get back in the win column with its traditional homecoming match at 6 p.m. Friday against Plateau Valley.
Hayden and Soroco incorporate volleyball and football games into their homecoming festivities.
The JV B team will play at 4 p.m. The JV A team will play at 5 p.m., and the varsity will play at 6 p.m. Friday at Hayden High School.
Fans are encouraged to wear orange and black to the homecoming matches.
