Joylyn Lajuana (Dull) New, formerly of Oak Creek, died Sept. 7, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. She was 64.
Joy was born Jan. 27, 1940, in Winchester, Ind., to Arthur and Wanda Dull.
Joy married Eugene New on Nov. 16, 1957, in Alaska. They were married for almost 47 years.
Joy attended school in Oak Creek. She and her sister, Betty, spent their summers near Winchester, Ind., with their father and their winters in Oak Creek with their mother, stepfather and other siblings.
Joy was a homemaker and mother of two sons. In addition to being an artist, Joy also enjoyed clothes designing, sewing, quilting and home decorating.
Joy was preceded in death by her son Terry New, her sister Betty Clevenger, her niece Tammy Clevenger, her father, Arthur Dull, and her stepfather, Guy Bennett.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene New, of San Antonio, Texas; her mother, Wanda Bennett, of Owensboro, Ky.; her son, Larry New, and his wife, Paula, and children, Shelby and Austin, of New Braunfels, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Eve New and children Samantha and Paul of West Point, Ga.; two sisters, Norma Teare of Rogersville, Tenn., and Linda Henderson of Loveland; two brothers, Larry Bennett of Priest River, Idaho, and Cleo Dull of Winchester, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
A memorial service was held Sept. 11, 2004, at the Colonial Funeral Home, Universal City, Texas, with the Rev. Bruce Teare officiating. Tommy New provided music and song, and a celebration of life was presented by Larry New.
Interment was at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
