Former Routt County Commissioner Bill Haight remained in serious condition Saturday after being airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center after a three-car accident Friday morning on U.S. Highway 40 west of Milner.

Haight, 71, was traveling west when his 2004 Nissan Maxima was hit head-on by a 1997 Chevrolet pickup driven by Isaias Perez, 57, of Steamboat. Perez was traveling east, attempting to pass a late model Dodge truck waiting to turn left onto Routt County Road 48 when the collision occurred.

Perez and passenger Omar Bautista were taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center. Both had severe injuries to their faces, chests and legs. They were in stable condition Saturday, a hospital representative said.

The driver of the Dodge truck, Dennis Cullen, 66, of Steamboat Springs, was not injured.

Haight, who had to be extricated from his vehicle, was the most seriously injured of those in the accident and suffered from chest, arm and leg injuries.
