Steve Lewis: Editorial unfair
Saturday, September 4, 2004
Ouch! Ouch! Hey! That hurts! We're just trying to be good citizens.
OK, we're overdue. We apologize for the extra months of volunteer time we're putting in.
But does your Aug. 29 editorial need to call the Tax Policy Advisory Board a "laggardly ... agenda-bound ... pleading ... ineffective bystander" seeking "purblind obstructionism"? Gee, your lodging guys get to be "logical" and act "decisively."
And get your facts straight. The Local Marketing District, which we feel is moving too fast, first appeared Aug. 12, barely in time to make the ballot.
And where did you get the "clear warnings from the City Council"? I only heard "Thanks for the hard, thorough work" type stuff.
You start with: "communities are always better served if there is a visionary plan, supported by residents and implemented and enforced by a responsible local government." But your column argues for the opposite: "lodging community ... control of how those tax dollars are spent." And your entire argument? The volunteers did not move fast enough.
You should calm down, be nice and let us do the best job we can.
