Winter sports club hosting certification clinics

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is hosting two clinics to certify ski race officials. The first is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at the fireplace room in the Howelsen Hill Lodge. The cost is $5.

The second clinic is for referee certification at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in the fireplace room. The cost is $20.

The first clinic is prerequisite to the second. Participants can take the first or both clinics, and the public is encouraged to attend to help the club put on its races. Call 879-0695.

Tread of Pioneers Museum seeking volunteers

The Tread of Pioneers Museum is seeking volunteers interested in helping with artifact conservation projects. No experience is necessary, and museum staff will provide direction on projects such as stabilizing photo albums, caring for historic clothing and accessories, and generally improving the storage and care of items in the museum's collection. SKY club presents

6th annual haunted dorm

The Colorado Mountain College SKY Club presents its sixth annual Screamboat Chamber of Horror haunted dormitory from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 29, 30 and 31 in Monson Hall. Tickets are $5 at the door, and all proceeds go to the SKY Club's Endowed Science Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid for a science student each year at CMC's Alpine Campus. Over-the-Hill Gang

offering financial aid

For the ninth consecutive year, Steamboat's Over-the-Hill Gang is offering financial assistance of as much as $1,000 each to local athletes for their education and/or skill improvement in their area of competence. Only athletes involved in winter sports are eligible.

Applicants should be attending or a graduate of a school in Routt County or a Routt County resident for a minimum of two years. Applicants also must be between 14 and 22 as of Nov. 15.

Applications are available at all Routt County high schools, Steamboat Springs Middle School, Whiteman and Christian Heritage Schools, CMC and the Winter Sports Club.

Boy scouts selling Christmas decorations

The Boy Scouts of America Troop 194 will be selling Christmas wreaths and garlands in October. The troop is raising money to go to the national jamboree in the summer of 2005 at Fort AP Hill, Va. Call 879-5241,871-0912 or 870-9251.

LIFT-UP offices

distributing commodities

U.S. Department of Agriculture commodities are being distributed at LIFT-UP of Routt County offices in Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Oak Creek through the Emergency Food Assistance Program. Eligible households can receive TEFAP foods once a quarter, with the current quarter running from October to December. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Call 870-8804 from 1 to 5 p.m. weekdays for information about income eligibility and hours of operation.

West Routt Library District seeks trustee

The West Routt Library District has one opening on its board of trustees. Hayden residents interested in serving on the seven-member board are asked to stop by the Hayden Public Library and pick up an application form. This is a voluntary position, and the term will begin Jan. 1. Call the library at 276-3777.
