Soroco falls short in Rangely

The Soroco High School football team came close Friday night, but when the final horn sounded in Rangely, the team had suffered another heartbreaking loss.

Two fourth quarter touchdowns sealed the Rams' fate in the 35-27 loss to the Panthers, who are now 3-3 in league play and 5-3 overall.

"It was just an awesome game," Soroco coach Gary Heide said. "I'm disappointed that we lost, but we actually played our best football game of the season."

The Rams tied the game in the third quarter with Ben Montoya's 3-yard touchdown run. Montoya also scored in the fourth quarter on a 35-yard pass reception. But the Panther's scored twice en route to the 35-27 win.

The Rams, 1-5 in league and 3-5 overall, will wrap up the 2004 season next Friday night at home against the league-leading Hayden Tigers.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Oak Creek.
