The Steamboat Springs girls and boys cross country teams placed fourth at the Oct. 2 meet hosted by Summit High School.

The girls, led by senior Jennifer Hooper's fourth-place finish, scored 131 points to finish behind Rocky Mountain, Moffat County and Dakota Ridge.

The boys, led by Andy Garber's 18th-place finish, scored 116 points to finish behind Rocky Mountain, Moffat County and Dakota Ridge.

Rocky Mountain's Ellie Rastall won the meet for the girls in 19 minutes, 43 seconds. Teammate Aaron Braun won the boys' race in 17 minutes, 41.7 seconds.

Garber was followed closely by a large pack of Sailors runners who finished less than 18 seconds behind him.

Mike Gleason was 23rd, Sam Tarrant was 24th, and Matt Hill was 25th. Kieran Corrigan was 29th. Justin Krause also ran for the Sailors and finished 80th.

Sarah MacCarthy was the second Steamboat girls finisher. She placed 23rd. Katie Conrath was 27th. Madison Proper was 34th, Anna Anderson was 43rd, Florie Van Baak, was 56th and Colleen Treanor was 71st.

Steamboat also sent a small contingent of runners to the Aspen meet Saturday, but SAT testing limited many of the Sailors' varsity runners from attending.

The cross-country team's next meet is at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Palisade.
