Snow causes downed power lines, outages

Heavy snow caused downed power lines and power outages throughout the city Saturday night.

Steamboat Springs Police Sgt. Nick Bosick said the police department was aware of four transformers that went out from downed power lines: three near Routt County Roads 36 and 38 and another in the 400 block of Third Street.

Bosick said that he saw a glow in the sky from the downed line at Third Street and that the power line had fallen next to a fence and was on fire. Yampa Valley Electric Association and the Steamboat Springs Fire Department arrived to put out the fire.
