Seth Bograd: Theater a good idea

I am writing in reference to the article in the Nov. 18 Steamboat Today, "Feedback given on theater." I was at the Oct. 28 pre-application hearing in front of the Planning Commission and the Nov. 16 City Council meeting.

As an actor, writer, director, producer, stage manager, sound and light technician, I am a 15-year member and past president of the Steamboat Community Players, an active member of Ski Town Productions and also have performed with Steamboat Dance Theater and Emerald City Opera, among others. So, my wholehearted, undying support for this theater project as drawn is understandable.

I would like to inform the public of a couple of very positive points that came up at the meetings that were not mentioned in the article.

The Riverhouse Theatre will have a public walkway on three sides, which means the public will have 24-hour-a-day access to the river, whether the building is open or locked up.

Concerns about the building's effect on views of Howelsen Hill are overstated and this very positive feature should negate such concerns.

Also, Riverhouse Theatre will have digital audio and video recording capabilities. Artists performing at the theater could record CDs and DVDs proudly labeled "Recorded live in Steamboat Springs." These capabilities also mean the theater can be used as a TV studio.

I urge the public to voice their support for this wonderful, entirely privately funded project that will mean so much to the economic and cultural future of Steamboat Springs.
