Greg Binsfeld: Table tennis club
Tuesday, November 23, 2004
I am happy to announce that the Steamboat Springs Table Tennis Club soon will be open for play again. We are getting a late start this year because of a conflict about an increase in the price for the gym that we rent from the school district. The increase in rent was not affordable for our club based on our income during the past few years. I personally went through an appeal process with the School Board but was unable to convince them to lower the rate. Although I do not agree with the School Board's decision about the rate increase, I respect the hard work of our dedicated board members. I encourage them to keep taxpayer-owned facilities available at a reasonable rate to the public.
Thanks to an excellent article in the Steamboat Today by Brent Boyer about the plight of our club, an anonymous donation has been sent to me that should enable us to afford the increased rent this year. I thank this donor. If we want this club to continue, we need to get more people involved so we are in a stronger position to pay the increased rent.
Everyone is invited to come play pingpong with us from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays upstairs at the old junior high school. Our first night of play on our new night will be Dec. 2. All ability levels are welcome. We charge $5 a person. This is a great way to get out of the house during long, dark winter nights and really have some fun. It is also a good way to make new friends. So please consider joining us. For more information, feel free to call me at 879-2272.
Sincerely,
Greg Binsfeld
