The Steamboat Ski Area announced late Monday afternoon that it would open as scheduled Wednesday, with the gondola and Thunderhead Express chairlift serving skiing from the top of Thunderhead down Upper Vagabond to its saddle, and then via Eagle's Nest to the base area.
Lift tickets for Scholarship Day on Wednesday will be $15, and all proceeds will go to benefit the youngsters in the competitive skiing programs of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
The price of a single-day adult ticket goes up to $39 on Thanksgiving Day, remaining in place until further notice. Lift tickets for teens, juniors and seniors will sell for $23 a day beginning Thursday.
The ski area is reporting a 14-inch base at mid-mountain after more than 6 inches of fresh snow fell during the weekend. Conditions are pack powder and man-made snow.
Since 1991, Scholarship Day has generated nearly $400,000 for the Winter Sports Club.
Ski area officials said they would actively consider opening more terrain as snowmaking conditions and natural snowfall permit.
