Cargo Rodeman: Newspaper focuses on negative
Saturday, November 20, 2004
At our Town Board meeting Nov. 18, all that your newspaper was interested in were any negative issues surrounding the 20-foot strip of land needed for the "Roofing the Rink" project and whether the town ultimately would obtain the property by eminent domain.
You will never know how beautiful it is to witness good people from the entire Yampa Valley coming together to make this project happen. No member of your staff can begin to know all the phone calls, e-mails and person-to-person visits that have transpired, and are still transpiring, to acquire this property in a fair and reasonable manner. You never will.
You know what else took place at that same meeting? The board voted to lower our residential trash collection rates by $3.25 per month, per household. Did you know that this new rate includes curbside recycling for any resident who wants it? How about the even lower rates provided in this new refuse collection contract for our seniors? There were 17 agenda items that this board worked through; each member doing his or her best to make the decisions they truly thought were best for the town as a whole.
Whose interests do you have in mind when you decide what to, or not to, print when covering our board meetings?
I guarantee the residents directly affected by the decisions made by the Oak Creek Town Board would have liked at least a teeny paragraph about the other determinations made on their behalf at that meeting.
