Volunteers, food donations sought for Thanksgiving
Volunteers and prepared food donations are needed for the annual community Thanksgiving Dinner to be held Nov. 25, sponsored by Routt County United Way, Vectra Bank and the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. Food Service Department. Vectra Bank is looking for people to stuff and bake turkeys and make gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables and other side dishes. To donate prepared food, call 870-4212. To volunteer for the event, call 879-5605.
Quit smoking with help from Visiting Nurse center
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is asking people trying to quit smoking to participate in an effort by the American Cancer Society to conduct "the largest Web-based trial of smoking cessation programs ever held in the United States." The trial is called "QuitLink." The 6,000 smokers who enroll will be assigned randomly to one of six Internet-based smoking cessation programs nationwide. The trial is free and open to any smoker older than 18. Participants will be followed for one year from their enrollment. Smokers can sign up at www.cancer.org/quittobacco.
Applications for historic designation due Monday
Applications for designation to the Routt County Register of Historic Properties are due in the Routt County commissioners office by 5 p.m. Monday. The applications will be reviewed by the Routt County Historic Preservation Board at its quarterly meeting at 5 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Commissioners Hearing Room of the courthouse. Support group for dealing with loss during holidays
The holidays are quickly approaching. For those who have experienced the death of a loved one, this can be a painful time.
The Visiting Nurse Association is sponsoring a bereavement support/education group called "Handling the Holidays."
The group will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays at the offices of the Visiting Nurse Association. The group will meet from Nov. 15 through Dec. 20. Call Katy Thiel at 879-1632, ext. 33.
Charter school holding book fair Nov. 21, 22
The North Routt Community Charter School will hold its annual book fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 21 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Hahn's Peak Cafe. Scholastic Books and Epilogue Book Co. are partnering to provide books.
