Longtime Steamboat Springs resident Helen Rehder passed away May 9, 2004. She was 87.
Helen was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Red Cloud, Neb. She spent her early years in Red Cloud before moving for a short time to Arizona and various other places. She moved to Steamboat in the late 1940s.
It was in Steamboat that she met Henry Rehder, whose family homesteaded in the Harris Creek and Pleasant Valley area near the turn of the 20th century. The couple married Dec. 24, 1953. Helen and Henry spent 45 years together; he died in 1998.
Helen and Henry loved their sheep ranch on Harrison Creek. As they got older, they spent the winters in Cambria, Calif., but Steamboat was always home.
She loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting for American Indian artifacts. She also loved taking care of her sheep and painting.
Helen is survived by her sister, Lois Marron, and her husband, Dean; a niece, Delain Marron; and a nephew, Bradford Marron.
Services were held May 12, 2004, at the Rehder Ranch, where Helen was buried next to her beloved Henry.
