DONALD M. RHODES

Former Routt County resident Donald M. Rhodes passed away May 1, 2004. He was 68.

Don was born July 3, 1935, to Floyd and Jewell McKinney Rhodes in Steamboat Springs. He spent his younger years in Mount Harris.

The family moved to Riddle, Ore., in 1950. Don was a 1955 graduate of Riddle High School.

He married Dorla Huffman in October 1956 in Tri City, Ore. In 1962, they moved to Oak Creek, where Don worked for Pittsburg and Midway Coal. He was transferred to Gallup, N.M., in 1978, and he continued to work for the coal company until his retirement.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. After retirement, he and Dorla became snowbirds and wintered in Arizona and summered in Colorado and Oregon. They traveled wherever the road took them.

Those who knew Don expected to be teased, and there was laughter whenever he was around. He will be remembered with love and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Jeffrey.

Don is survived by his wife, Dorla; two sons, Mike and his wife, Teresa, of Craig and Mark of Gallup, N.M.; four grandchildren, Michelle, Mandi, Lori and Bryan, all of Craig; a brother, Ray Rhodes and his wife, Mary, of Elk Grove, Calif.; a brother- and sister-in-law, Jack and Phyllis Garren of Riddle, Ore.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

It was Don's request that no services be held.
