ELMER PAUL 'PETE' THIEMANN: 1909 -- 2004

Elmer Paul "Pete" Thiemann passed away May 9, 2004, in his home. He was 94.

Pete was born Sept. 10, 1909, in Louisville, Ky., to Herman and Mary Algeier Thiemann. He was the last of 10 children.

Pete graduated from St. Xavier High School, attended the University of Louisville and studied accounting at LaSalle Extension University. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 22, 1942. He attended OCS and attained the rank of captain as a flight controller in the Eighth Air Force. Pete served for 2 1/2 in Europe and in the occupation of Japan.

He moved to Terre Haute, Ind., in 1948 as an accounting machine manager with the National Cash Register Company.

In January 1951, he and his sister, Antoinette Thiemann, established what is now Thiemann Office Products.

Pete was a president of his local chapter of the National Cost Accountants, a member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, the Country Club of Terre Haute and the Elks Club No. 86. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he served on the church school board and also its parish council.

Pete is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eleise Schuler Thiemann; eight children: Paul and Martha Thiemann; Anne and Ken Baugh; Sue and Mark Wynne; and Barbara and Tim Gossett, all of Terre Haute; David Thiemann of Steamboat Springs; Mark and Gayla Thiemann of Brazil, Ind.; Drs. Carole and Rob Thoman of Indianapolis; Brian and Katie Thiemann of St. Louis; and 20 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was held May 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Joe Villa and Monsignor Larry Moran officiated. Entombment followed in Calvary Cemetery.
