Fund-raiser held for

volunteer going to Africa

An African dance fund-raiser and send-off party for Sally Hertzog, who is going to Tanzania for two months to volunteer at the Amani Children's Home for AIDS orphans and autistic children, takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. today at The Center for Movement Arts. A $20 donation includes an African dance lesson, two drinks, food and a D.J. playing world beat dance tunes. African attire is encouraged. Call 879-4068 for more information.

YVMC will sponsor a blood drive Thursday

A blood drive sponsored by the Yampa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary is from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at YVMC. Bonfils Blood Center will conduct the drive. Appointments are required. Call Barbara Hughes at 870-6267 to schedule a donation time.

New Pony Club forming, will meet in Hayden

The Down Valley Pony Club, a satellite of the Yampa Valley Pony Club, is forming and will meet Saturday mornings in Hayden and weekday mornings in Craig and Steamboat Springs as needed. 23rd Steamboat Marathon seeking volunteers

Volunteers are needed to help June 5 and 6 for the 23rd annual Steamboat Marathon. Volunteers will receive an official event T-shirt and lunch on race day. Call 879-0882, ext. 203.

Gymkhana Club to start meeting in June at arena

The Routt County Gymkhana Club begins meeting June 10 at the Brent Romick Rodeo Arena, offering barrel racing, pole bending and fun for all ages and abilities. Call 879-2963.

Weather service seeking volunteer observer

The National Weather Service is looking for a volunteer weather observer to take and record daily weather readings in Steamboat Springs; specifically, in the area to the northeast of U.S. Highway 40 at an elevation of about 6770 feet.

The volunteer will be supplied with a digital thermometer to record high and low temperatures, and a rain gauge to record rain. Snow measurements also are needed. The observations will continue the official records which began in 1891.

Volunteers needed for Shabby Chic Garage Sale

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council needs volunteers to help with its Shabby Chic Garage Sale. Help is needed during drop-off times, from noon to 4 p.m. today and Sunday, and on June 5, the day of the sale. Call 879-9008, ext. 100.

TIPS classes being held Tuesday and Wednesday

24-hour Rio bike race needs help with events

The Rio 24 Hours of Steamboat bike race is seeking volunteers to help with the event June 12 and 13. Course marshals, emergency personnel, timers, aid-station workers and other volunteers are needed. Register at Sore Saddle Cyclery or call 879-1675.
