Yampa River streamflow rising, still below average

The streamflow in the Yampa River at the Fifth Street Bridge in Steamboat Springs was stair-stepping up again at midday Wednesday after dipping to 880 cubic feet per second Saturday. The river was back up to 1,450 cfs overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The flow remains below the historic average for the date of 1,700 cfs.

Fish Creek was reflecting a similar trend Wednesday, moving up to 350 cfs after slipping as low as 140 cfs five days earlier. Fish Creek had carried more than 400 cfs earlier in the month. The typical reading for May 19 is 240 cfs.

The Elk River has not jumped as sharply in the past two days. It was flowing at 1,900 cfs compared to typical flows of 2,400 cfs for this date.

Strawberry Park students cleaning up playground

The Strawberry Park Elementary Student Council hosts a playground spruce-up day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers are needed to help paint and fix the equipment. Call 871-3490.

YVMC sponsoring blood drive May 27 at 12:30

A blood drive sponsored by the Yampa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary is from 12:30 to 6 p.m. May 27 at YVMC. Bonfils Blood Center will conduct the drive. Appointments are required. Call Barbara Hughes at 870-6267 to schedule a donation time.

Volunteers needed for 23rd Steamboat Marathon

Volunteers are needed to help June 5 and 6 for the 23rd annual Steamboat Marathon. Volunteers will receive an official event T-shirt and lunch on race day. Call 879-0882, ext. 203.

New Pony Club forming, will meet in Hayden

The Down Valley Pony Club, a satellite of the Yampa Valley Pony Club, is forming and will meet Saturday mornings in Hayden and weekday mornings in Craig and Steamboat Springs as needed. Gymkhana Club to start meeting in June at arena

The Routt County Gymkhana Club begins meeting June 10 at Brent Romick Rodeo Arena, offering barrel racing, pole bending and fun for all ages and abilities. Call 879-2963.

Donations being accepted to send to soldiers in Iraq

Individuals who would like to send children's cards, letters, artwork and other tangible goods to soldiers in Iraq can drop those items off at Steamboat Real Estate at 635 Yampa Ave. Items also may be mailed to the Yampa Valley Community Foundation at P.O. Volunteers needed for Shabby Chic Garage Sale

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council needs volunteers to help with its Shabby Chic Garage Sale. Help is needed during drop-off times, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and on June 5, the day of the sale. Call 879-9008, ext. 100.

Rio 24-hour bike race

The Rio 24 Hours of Steamboat bike race is seeking volunteers to help with the event June 12 and 13. Course marshals, emergency personnel, timers, aid-station workers and other volunteers are needed. Register at Sore Saddle Cyclery or call 879-1675.

TIPS classes being held Tuesday and Wednesday
