Michele Burns: Support water rights

The city of Steamboat Springs and dedicated river lovers have taken the first step toward protecting the Yampa Valley's water resources and economic opportunities.

The Recreational In-Channel Diversion water right is an excellent way to leave water in the river while also creating opportunities for more recreation, and consequently revenue for the area. The RICD is a great opportunity for this community to grow and prosper while protecting the environment upon which we depend for our livelihoods and quality of life.

This is a unique crossroads that many communities cannot even entertain. We are fortunate to be in a position that we can enhance our economic opportunities without degrading the resources we absolutely need.

Despite the benefits of the RICD, it certainly is not a done deal. The Colorado Water Conservation Board is deciding the fate of our RICD application. We need your help and support to ensure that the application is approved. Join me and many other river lovers in this community and support the RICD and help the Yampa River Valley continue to be a naturally beautiful and economically vibrant place to live.
