— Steamboat Springs City Council will hear a proposal to develop six duplexes and four triplexes near the base of the Steamboat Ski Area during its regularly scheduled meeting tonight.

The developer of "Base Meadows South, Lot 1" is Charles Sher of Solana Beach, Calif. He is also the developer of 19 condominiums at Sundance Creek on Anglers Drive, which has been approved by the city. Tonight's proceeding is a pre-application review of the project; council will not take any official action on it.

City planner Tom Leeson said although the project is being presented as 10 separate buildings, they are on a single lot and will be treated as a multi-family residential project.

The development would be built on a three-acre site on Medicine Springs Drive near the intersection with AprÃs Ski Way. Neighboring multi-family projects include The Phoenix to the north, the Lodge to the west and the Landings to the south. The entrance to Cross Timbers Townhomes is just across Medicine Springs Drive.

The buildings would be arrayed n a horseshoe around a central courtyard enclosing a swimming pool changing rooms and a volleyball court.

Planning Commission was pleased with the traditional architecture of the buildings during a pre-application review that took place last month.

"The architecture looks very good, and I would like to compliment the architect (Tom Jarmon of Eric Smith Associates) for showing us different site plans that were worked through," commissioner Dick Curtis said. "I am very happy to see that you went through a number of designs."

City Council meets at 5 p.m. today at Centennial Hall.
