'SKILLS' class offered by Colorado Family Institute

"SKILLS," Supporting Kids In Learning Life Skills, a six-hour training session open to parents, child-care providers and others who work with children ages 8 and younger, will be offered by the Colorado Family Education, Resources and Training Institute. The class will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Colorado Mountain College's Bogue Hall Room 300 and registration is $15. Topics include neurobiological, social and emotional development; age-appropriate activities, limit-setting and coping strategies, and fostering assets and resilience. Gymkhana Club to meet beginning June 10

The Routt County Gymkhana Club begins meeting June 10 at the Brent Romick Rodeo Arena, offering barrel racing, pole bending and fun for all ages and abilities. Call 879-2963.

Send children's cards

to soldiers serving in Iraq

Individuals who would like to send children's cards, letters, artwork and other tangible goods to soldiers in Iraq can drop those items off at Steamboat Real Estate at 635 Yampa St. Items also may be mailed to the Yampa Valley Community Foundation at P.O. Arts Council looking

for Shabby Chic donations

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is accepting drop-off donations of "gently used" items for their Shabby Chic Garage Sale. Drop-off times are from noon to 4 p.m. May 22 and 23, or at other times by appointment. The Shabby Chic Garage Sale takes place June 5. Call 879-7125.

High school baseball team seeking sporting goods

Community Foundation celebrating 25 years

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Yampa Valley Community Foundation is making a gift of $25,000 to the community by recognizing one nonprofit organization in each of five fields of interest with a $5,000 grant each. A Sterling Anniversary Award will be given to one organization that has made a significant impact to improve the community in recreation; education; health and human Services; arts and culture; and environment. The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation was the co-sponsor the recreation field of interest.
