Sound off for May 2

Construction to resume

Rising prices in steel and other materials caused the developer and general contractor to value engineers and subsequently renegotiate their construction contract. This being accomplished, it is expected that construction will resume about May 15.

Leave Cargo alone

After reading Jerry Greenwood's letter in Sunday's Pilot, I can't help but ask, how many grants did you write when you were Oak Creek's mayor? What did you do to better Oak Creek at all? Leave Cargo alone. I was born in this town, and she's done a lot better job than any other mayor we've had in recent times.

Keep it up, Cargo

I'm calling about Jerry Greenwood's letter to the editor Sunday. Five to 1, the people who pay the bills in Oak Creek trust Cargo and appreciate everything she's done and everything she is doing. Keep up the good work, Cargo, because anyone with any sense is 100 percent behind you, and that's a fact.

Get the facts straight

This is Cargo Rodeman. Anything I'm going to say, I can positively prove. In response to Jerry Greenwood's letter in the Sunday Pilot, town funds have only been used for cash match on the grants that were written for imperative improvements to the town's 60-year-old infrastructure. The town is audited yearly, and the audit is sent to the state. As the past mayor, he should know that, and he should also get his facts straight.

Asking question too early

I think your Sound Off question is premature. There only has been a small amount of money to the museum and Historic Routt County, and it's hard to evaluate yet how the money's being used. None of the grants have been made yet, so I think it's premature to ask that question.

Registration frustrating

I'm calling to vent my frustration over the new registration process for the Parks and Recreation summer kids program. My children have thoroughly enjoyed this program throughout the years, and I can't speak highly enough of the staff. Unfortunately, because my kids don't need to be there five days, or even three, a week, it's likely my kids won't be enjoying it this summer. Instead of first-come, first-served, it is now based on a days-needed. I'm a stay-at-home parent, and money is tight because of the financial sacrifices my family has made to allow me to stay home and raise my children. The Parks and Rec program was an affordable and fun way for my kids to do something one or two days a week. We're very sad this won't be an option this summer. They should really consider changing the name to the Steamboat Springs Day Care.

Legalities over trust

The value of trust: It seems the school district is more concerned with legalities than trust. The teachers in this community should continue to be concerned about the actions of our School Board and superintendent. How many times, I wonder, have they met after-hours? Remember the laws and your responsibilities? What are the legal costs to make sure this meeting was legal?

How much does trust cost? After our last school board and superintendent's failure to build trust, you would think this board and superintendent would have learned the lesson. At this time, I would be working extremely hard to build trust, not breaking it.
