Free skiing, boarding for Armed Forces members

The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. will honor active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces with free skiing and snowboarding during the resort's Armed Forces Week, April 5 through 11.

"Steamboat is proud of our nation's servicemen and -women," said Andy Wirth, Steamboat Ski Area marketing executive. "Armed Forces Week is Steamboat's way of saying thank you to all the active duty members that have sacrificed so much to ensure our freedoms."

Active military personnel from any branch of the nation's armed services can present a valid, current military ID at any Steamboat ticket window or the main ticket office to access free skiing or riding at the Steamboat Ski Area. The free skiing and riding offer also is available to family members with a valid military ID.

Har Mishpacha, Goldman hosting Passover Seder

Har Mishpacha and Rabbi Goldman will host a Passover Seder at 5:30 p.m. April 6 at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel. Congregants and nonmembers are invited to attend this traditional meal. Reservations are required by Tuesday. Call Sandy Miller at 871-1291 or Nancy Ventrudo at 871-4819

Middle school students need a car donation

Steamboat Springs Middle School students are looking for a car, in running condition, to use for their "art car" project, to be featured in this summer's Art Car Stampede. Anyone interested in donating a vehicle can receive a tax deduction. Call teacher Johnny Walker at 879-4947.

'Cabaret' tickets on sale Tuesday for May shows

Tickets for "Cabaret," an annual mud season variety show, go on sale at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Depot Art Center for Steamboat Springs Arts Council members and at 9 a.m. April 1 for the general public. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. May 6 and 7, and 6 and 9 p.m. May 8. Call 879-9008.

taking softball registration

The Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for a girls fast-pitch softball program until April 7. The program is for girls in grades two through 11 and will run from late April through July 1. Call 879-4300.

Fellowship available

to artist for workshop

The Mixed Media Painting School of Steamboat Springs offers a $500 fellowship to help the winning artist pay for their next workshop or class. The fellowship's focus is educational and meant for artists interested in expanding their artistic style by adding new media, but applicants do not need to submit work in the mixed-media painting style to be eligible. Fellowship applications are available at the Depot Art Center, Advocates Against Battering and Abuse, Colorado Mountain College and the Yampa Valley Art Therapy Center. Applications are due April 25.

Fire cadet program being offered to youths 14 to 20

The Oak Creek Fire Protection District offers a fire cadet program to youths ages 14 to 20 to allow them to gain experience and education in the field of firefighting as part of the "Learning for life, career exploring" program. An open house on the program will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Oak Creek Fire Station. The cost of the program is $7. Call 736-8104.
