A California developer who intends to break ground this spring on 19 condominiums on Anglers Drive also has proposed 24 new duplex and triplex townhomes near the base of the ski mountain.
Solano Beach, Calif., developer Charlie Sher's "Base Meadows South" project is scheduled to come before city Planning Commission on Thursday for a preliminary review. The project will go to City Council on April 20.
The plan would create four triplexes and six duplexes on three acres on Medicine Springs Drive. The site is close to Apres Ski Way.
In a memo to planning staff, project architect Tom Jarmon of Eric Smith Associates said each townhouse will contain a separate two-car garage.
The units will have partial views of the ski mountain and a common interior landscaped space with volleyball court and pool/spa area.
The developer is seeking less than the permitted density. The proposed total square footage of 77,610 square feet suggests each of the townhomes would be about 3,000 square feet.
City planner Tom Leeson said Sher's proposal amounts to a use by right.
"There aren't really any big issues," Leeson said. "It should be straightforward."
Tentative architectural renderings show buildings with traditional roof gables and large expansive windows above exterior decks.
Nearby condominium/townhome projects include The Mountaineer and The Lodge at Steamboat.
Most of Sher's work involves commercial developments in Southern California. He became interested in doing projects in Steamboat when he purchased a vacation home here.
