Girl Scouts collecting
nonperishable food items
The Steamboat Springs Girl Scout Service Unit will be collecting nonperishable food donations for the LIFT-UP Food Bank. Girl Scouts will be hanging bags on front doors this week. Residents are asked to place donations in the bags and set them outside their doors by 9 a.m. Saturday, when a Girl Scout will come by to pick up the bags.

presentation held March 31
"Managed Money: A better way to invest," a presentation by David Gordon, senior vice president and investment officer in Wachovia Securities Private Client Group, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 31 at the Steamboat Yacht Club. The presentation is free but donations to Routt County United Way are requested. Topics will include choosing the right money managers, tax traps, when to fire a manager, using a consultant and ethical and fiduciary issues. Becky Thayer teaching beginning English riding
Beginning English riding lessons with instructor Becky Thayer will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays, April 3 to 24, at the indoor arena at the Routt County Fairgrounds. The cost is $86 per child. Multiple child discounts and scholarships are available. Riders are encouraged to bring their own ponies. For more information or to register, call Thayer at 824-0311. Health and Rec offering lifeguard training course
The Steamboat Springs Health and Recreation Association offers a lifeguard training class in April. A 500-yard swim pretest is mandatory for class participants and will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Classes will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 3, 4, 17, 18 and 24. The cost is $230 and includes lifeguarding and multiple first-aid certifications. Call 879-1828 to sign up for the pretest.
'21 under 31' art exhibit at Steamboat Grand
Southwest Art Magazine goes on the road with an exhibit and sale of paintings and sculptures by the next generation of collectible artists from the magazine's annual feature, "21 under 31." The exhibit is on display through April 11 at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center. Call 870-2880.
Strings presents tribute
to John Lennon on Friday
Strings in the Mountains presents "A Day in His Life," a tribute to John Lennon, by Tim Piper and his band at 8 p.m. Friday at the Steamboat Christian Center.
Piper portrays not only the Beatles' music in the style and sound of the original recordings but also Lennon's personality, appearance, mannerisms and humor. Piper has portrayed Lennon twice on national television, as well as with his band at the John Lennon Birthday Memorial in New York City in 2001.
