Legislation is passed
extending child tax credit
Routt County child-care groups are praising legislation extending the Child Care Contribution Tax Credit.
The legislation was signed by Gov. Bill Owens on March 9.
The tax credit allows anyone making a cash donation to a child-care facility to take a 50 percent tax credit. The credit was extended through Dec. 31, 2009, through legislation carried by Rep. Lynn Hefley, R-Colorado Springs, and Sen. Jack Taylor, R-Steamboat Springs.
Tami Havener, executive director of the Family Development Center, which includes Discovery Learning Center, and Renee Donahue, Routt County's early childhood supervisor, said Taylor deserves significant credit.
"We owe him a huge debt of thanks," Havener said. "We know from research that the highest quality programs have to receive donation money."
