Steamboat Springs seniors Phil Bush, Cooper Lee and Chris Timmerman have been selected to participate in Saturday's 12th annual High School All-Star Hockey Game.

Forty seniors from Colorado were selected by a committee in Colorado Springs based on initial nominations and a series of eliminations. Bush and Timmerman, both forwards, led the Sailors' offensively this season, scoring 11 goals each.

Timmerman also had 12 assists, and Bush had four assists, ranking them among the top-scoring seniors in the state.

Bush is a senior at The Lowell Whiteman School. Timmerman is a senior at Christian Heritage School, and Lee is a senior at Steamboat Springs High School.

"I was surprised," Bush said of his selection. "But not if you go by points."

Lee was in net for all 18 of Steamboat's games this regular and postseason. Six senior goalies were picked and will be divided between the two All-Star teams.

"It is a great honor to represent Steamboat in my final high school game," Lee said.

The Sailors' season ended with a 6-3 loss to Liberty in the opening round of the state playoffs Feb. 20. The Sailors totaled 36 minutes of penalties in the 45-minute game.

"It was a disappointing end, but it was a fun season," Bush said.

Cheyenne Mountain, a team Steamboat lost to twice by one goal each time, captured the state title, defeating Kent Denver in the finals Feb. 28.

Lee, Timmerman and Bush will practice with their team Saturday morning before the 6 p.m. game Saturday night at Sertich Ice Arena in Colorado Springs.

Considering no one from Steamboat had to be selected to the All-Star team, Timmerman said it was an honor to be chosen, but he wishes all of his Sailor teammates could join him because he isn't solely responsible for his season statistics.

But Timmerman said he was looking forward to seeing who his teammates will be in this unique game.

"We get to play with the kids we have grown up playing against," Timmerman said.

Timmerman and Lee both plan on pursuing hockey after graduation. Timmerman is headed to Roanoke University in Salem, Va., where he probably will join the club team. Lee has been accepted to the University of Denver but plans to try out for the Junior A league.

Bush is undecided about his future plans.
