Apartments damaged but no one injured at Vista Verde

A Vista Verde apartment caught fire Sunday morning. forcing evacuation of the complex.

Mark Skof, a resident of the apartment at 331 Coronado Place, reported signs of smoke to the Hayden Police Department about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters with the West Routt Fire Protection District reached the fire shortly after 9 a.m.

By the time the fire was extinguished, a ceiling in the bedroom of one unit had sustained heavy flame and smoke damage, but no other units were damaged.

Skof's son discovered the fire when he noticed a blackened, scorched ceiling in the upstairs bedroom.

The fire, which was burning insulation in the attic, was slowly gathering momentum.

Within an hour or so, it would have been much bigger, West Routt Assistant Fire Chief Dan Faucett said Sunday.

West Routt Fire Protection District Chief Bryan Rickman was not available Tuesday to comment on the cause of the fire or the monetary value of the damage.
