LLOYD FRANKLIN GILROY: 1923 -- 2004

Longtime Routt County resident Lloyd Franklin Gilroy passed away June 1, 2004, at his Hayden home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 80.

Lloyd was born July 13, 1923, in Dixon, Wyo., to George "Shorty" and Gladys Gilroy. He was raised on the Little Snake River and attended school in Dixon and Baggs, Wyo.

Lloyd enlisted in the Army in 1948, and after serving his country for two years, he returned to the Steamboat Springs area, where he married Norma C. Cook on May 7, 1950.

He was an accomplished horseman and a longtime Routt County rancher. He loved being involved in all aspects of ranching operations. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family while hunting and fishing.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Elaine; his parents, George and Gladys Gilroy; two brothers, George and Donald; and a sister, Betty.

He is survived by Norma, his wife of 54 years; four daughters, Joella Peterson and her husband, Rod, of Wiggins, Amy Kerstiens of Rapid City, S.D.; Jana McElwaine and her husband, Neil, of Bozeman, Mont., and Gerry Dyer and her husband, Robby, of Ault; two sons, Ted Gilroy and his wife, Karen, and Tim Gilroy and his wife, Karen, both of Hayden; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Faye Paulson and her husband, Ralph, of Craig; three brothers, Eugene Gilroy and his wife, Ellen, of Baggs, Wyo., Archie Gilroy and his wife, Joan, of Vernal, Utah, and Robert Gilroy and his wife, Lu, of Rozet, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
