There is time to sign up for the Xterra Off-road Triathlon competition.
Registration is open online at www.xterraplanet.com to anyone interested in the full off-road triathlon or the half-distance Xterra Sport triathlon. Both are July 18 at the Keystone Resort south of Steamboat Springs.
The full-distance triathlon is a 1K swim in Keystone Lake; a wet suit is required because of the water's temperature. The second leg is a 26K mountain bike ride to the summit of Keystone Mountain, and the final leg is a 10K trail run.
The cost of the full triathlon is $115 or $230 for a team. The half triathlon is $75 for an individual and $150 for a team.
"This is the seventh year of the Xterra in Keystone," spokeswoman Sharon Cutler said. "It's pretty much stayed the same. We still have the mountain bike part called Wild Thing, and the run is still rolling hills."
The July 18 event formally is called the Nissan Xterra Central Championship and is one of three regional championships held as part of the series. The event will feature many of the region's top triathletes, as well as several of the world's top off-road triathletes.
The national championships will be Sept. 26 in Lake Tahoe. The world championships will be Oct. 24 in Hawaii. Athletes accumulate points at series races, such as the one in Keystone, toward an overall title.
New this year on the series is a Kids' Base Camp with free activities such as a climbing wall, running races, bike races, bike safety clinics and more.
