U.S. Forest Service mulls special-use permits

The U.S. Forest Service is in the process of considering the renewal of special-use permits for three businesses that provide public recreational opportunities in the Routt National Forest. The Sunset Ranch provides summer pack trips and fall hunting camps in the Swamp Park area of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness. Access is from the Red Dirt Trailhead on Routt County Road 129.

The Elk River Ranch conducts horseback rides in the Coulton Creek area, hiking trips, cross country skiing and big game packing for Elk River Guest Ranch clients.

Sombrero Ranches does horse delivery and deer/elk packing forestwide in the Routt National Forest. Outfitter and guide operations, including hunting camps, on the Yampa Ranger District are limited to big game hunting seasons.

The Routt National Forest is seeking public comment on the reissuance of these three permits. Send written comments by June 25 to Steve McCone, Routt National Forest, 925 Weiss Drive, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487, or call him at 870-2277.

Golfers, donations sought for tournament, auction

The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors seeks golfers, hole sponsors and donated items for a June 15 auction at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort ballroom. The tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. June 16 with a shotgun start at the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Club. Proceeds benefit the Realtors' 2005 college scholarship program. Mother, baby yoga class offered every Thursday

A mother and baby yoga class is being offered from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, beginning this week, at Yoga Rx and Bear River Center. The cost is $60. Call Jeanne Upbin at 870-3046.

fishing, shooting camp

The Colorado Division of Wildlife sponsors a free two-day fishing and shooting camp for children ages 10 through 12 on June 21 and 22. On June 21, children go to Steamboat Lake to learn fly fishing and other fishing techniques. On June 22, they will go to the Yampa State Park Wildlife Area and Hayden rifle range to shoot rifles, shotguns and archery equipment. Lunches will be provided. YVMC resource center

has new hours for summer

The Community Health Resource Center at Yampa Valley Medical Center will change its hours of operation for the summer. Its summer hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

'A Chorus Line' auditions take place June 14 and 15

Auditions for "A Chorus Line" will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. June 14 (dance) and 15 (acting and singing) at Steamboat Springs High School. They are seeking community actors, dancers and singers, including an off-stage chorus, who are 14 and older for the inaugural summer show July 22 through 24. Everyone auditioning should prepare a 30- to 60-second monologue and part of a song.
