Pioneer Picnic is Sunday

The Pioneer Picnic, sponsored by the Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg, is from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Decker Park in Oak Creek. Descendents of Northwest Colorado's pioneer families and anyone interested in the region's history are invited to attend. A meat entree and beverages will be provided, but bring your table service and a side dish.

Plein-air

workshop

Jean Perry is teaching a plein-air painting workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Aug. 2 through 4, during the Beaux Arts Festival. The workshop starts at the Depot Art Center each day and emphasizes the joys and hardships of painting on location and ends with a critique of the students' work. The cost is $300 per person. Slopeside Grill hosts concert

Slopeside Grill kicks off its 10th annual Free Summer Concert Series on Sunday with Papi Mali and Mountain of Venus. The lineup for the following six Sundays includes Mofro, Mystic Vision, Chris Duarte, Urge Overkill, Banyan and The Radiators, in that order. All shows start at 3 p.m. on the grass outside Slopeside Grill, and they're free.

Arts Council seeks help

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking volunteers to help at the 30th Annual Art in the Park Arts and Crafts Festival. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 10 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11 at West Lincoln Park. Call Jayne Austin at the Arts Council at 879-9008, ext. 104, to volunteer.

La Boheme at Emerald opera

Emerald City Opera presents La BohÃme at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 and 3 p.m. Aug. 8 in the Steamboat Springs High School auditorium. The production features LeRoy Lehr of the Metropolitan Opera, James Taylor from New York City Opera and Kara Shay Thompson of Chicago Opera Theater. Clay Artisans host workshop

Steamboat Clay Artisans is hosting a brushmaking workshop with Kathy Holt from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 at the Depot Art Center. Participants will make 8 to 12 brushes good for ceramics, watercolor, ink and calligraphy and learn skills to continue to make brushes on their own using deer tail, fox, squirrel, ringtail cat and moose hair with bamboo handles and a variety of other materials. Torian Plum seeks artists

Slipcast Object needs entries

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking entries for The Slipcast Object, an international exhibition juried by Richard Notkin that is open to artists working with slipcasting. Entries should be submitted as 35 mm slides by Aug. 2. The exhibit will run Nov. 12 through Jan. 9 at The Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts at the Depot Art Center. Cash prized will be awarded.
