CMC offers class in

first aid, CPR July 23

Registration under way for Concordia Bible school

Concordia Lutheran Church is accepting registrations for its vacation Bible school, open to children entering the sixth grade and younger. The weeklong school is from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning July 12. Call 879-0175.

Women's mountain bike clinics held Fridays

Women-only mountain bike clinics taught by certified cycling coach Katie Lindquist are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays at Steamboat Ski Area. Learn bike mechanics, technique and skills. The cost is $45 and includes a mountaintop lunch. Call 871-5382.

National Weather Service seeks volunteer observer

The National Weather Service is looking for a volunteer weather observer to take and record daily weather readings in Steamboat Springs; specifically, in the area northeast of U.S. Highway 40 at an elevation of about 6770 feet.

The volunteer will be supplied with a digital thermometer to record high and low temperatures, and a rain gauge to record rain. Snow measurements also are needed. The observations will continue the official records, which began in 1891.

Beaux Arts Festival artists' meeting today at Depot

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is calling for artists to participate in the Strada D'Arte event Aug. 6 and 7. Strada D'Arte is a traditional form of Italian street painting in which artists would cover church courtyards with renderings of the Madonna and other religious scenes.

For the Beaux Arts Festival, artists will design and decorate a concrete square (either 3-by-3-feet or 6-by-6-feet) using ground pastel chalk. This is typically a full-day project. Interested artists who want a chance to show off their talent and imagination should call Dona Steele at 879-9038 or the arts council at 879-9008. A meeting for interested artists will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at the Depot Arts Center.

Children's singing group rehearsals begin today

Registration is under way for the Steamboat Animated Wall of Sound, a singing group for elementary and middle school-aged children directed by Christel Houston. Rehearsals are from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning today. The group will perform two concerts with Norman Foote at Strings in the Mountains on Aug. 10. Call 276-1444.

Chili masters sought

to compete in cookoff

Chili cooks are needed to take part in a chili cookoff that will happen from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31 in Gondola Square as part of the Steamboat Mountain Chili Festival. Prizes include a ski vacation to The Canyons, Utah; dinner for two at The Cabin; and round-trip airline tickets. To enter, call 871-5382.
