City will offer class on ADA

The city of Steamboat Springs is inviting residents to sit in on two classes about American with Disabilities Act requirements for Colorado Department of Trans-portation projects.
The class is offered in Steamboat Springs on Feb. 13.
Deputy City Manager Wendy DuBord said the class would be beneficial to city employees as well as those in the public sector such as engineers and planners.
She invited anyone to come to the class who works on developments that interface with public streets and sidewalks.
The class is opened to 100 people and is the only one given in Northwest Colorado. Another class will be offered Feb. 12 in Grand Junction.
The U.S. Department of Trans-portation and the Federal Highway Administration have required CDOT to develop a policy and method to implement American with Disabilities Act accessibility requirements.
Projects constructed by CDOT or funded by CDOT and constructed under local agency are required to follow those requirements.
Examples of the kind of projects that could be affected are the major and minor widening of roadways, resurfacing and en-hancement of pedestrian or mixed-use pathways.
CDOT projects and local agency projects funded by CDOT are required to include curb ramps with landings that have detectible warnings.
