It had been a year since Eric and Brett Camerota competed in Steamboat Springs.
But the return trip for the North American Jumping and Nordic Combined Junior Championships yielded positive results for the twin brothers who skated to a one-two finish in Saturday's Nordic combined event. The duo, both 19, finished first and second in Friday's Nordic combined competition, as well.
The Camerota brothers are on the U.S. Nordic Combined team's developmental squad and demonstrated on Saturday the difference between taking part in the World Cup B tour and competing at the junior level.
"For cross country skiing, it makes a huge difference," Brett Camerota said. "We're stronger and have more experience."
While the pair train in Park City, Utah, the home base for the U.S. Nordic combined program, they do not work out with the members of the Intermountain Region team.
Things are looking up for the younger Park City skiers, as well, as brothers Trevor and Skyler Keate came in third and fourth, respectively.
Davis and Alex Miller, Steamboat's own set of twin brothers, came in fifth and sixth.
It was a one-spot improvement for each Miller boy from Friday's results.
"I had a good race," Davis Miller said. "Alex helped me."
The brothers skated together for two laps Saturday before Davis pulled ahead in an effort to catch Skyler Keate. By the end of the 10K race, Davis Miller nearly had the younger Keate.
"I needed nine more seconds," Davis Miller said.
Eric and Brett Camerota, however, were never seriously challenged.
After a two-jump score of 228.5, Eric Camerota had a 54-second head start on Skyler Keate, who finished Saturday morning's K-90 jumping event with 215 points.
Brett Camerota started 1 minute, 22 seconds behind his brother and 28 seconds behind Skylar Keate. Brett Camerota caught Keate on the first of four laps.
Eric and Brett Camerota took first and second easily.
But Trevor Keate had the fastest 10K time of the day, finishing the four laps in 28:08, moving up from seventh place at the start to finish third overall.
Steamboat's other finishers were: Bryan Fletcher in eighth, Andy Garber in 11th, Kyle Lockhart in 13th, Niels Morck in 15th and Taylor Fletcher in 16th.
Bryan Fletcher, Garber, Lockhart and Morck all moved up during the cross country race. Morck was 19th overall after the Saturday morning jumps and finished 15th after a 30:35 race.
