Class notes for Jan. 4

Beer to teach courses in writing
Edith Lynn Beer, author of five books and more than 200 published articles, will teach two creative writing courses, "Writing a Book that Sells" and "Writing an Article that Sells," at Colorado Mountain College.

"Writing An Article that Sells" is a course for those interested in writing for the Internet as well as for print. The class will explore how Internet writing techniques differ from those for print. Students will investigate how to market their writing on the Internet, in print publication or when it is possible in both. Each student will be asked to pick a subject and decide whether he or she wants it to go on the Internet, in a print publication or in both. The class will cover the actual construction of the writing including interviewing and researching. Students with works in progress are welcomed. The class meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays beginning Jan. 22.

" Writing A Book That Sells" interprets the three aspects of writing a successful book. One is the writing of the book, the second is finding a publisher for the book and the third is the platform for the book. The class will meet at 6 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 19.

RN refresher course starts Jan. 9

It has never been easier for an inactive registered nurse to get back into the profession. Yampa Valley Medical Center (YVMC) is one of several sites in Colorado that will host an RN refresher course in 2004. The course will begin Jan. 9.

The 220-hour course includes 100 interactive hours of theory taught at YVMC on Fridays, Jan. 9-April 16. Students also will complete 80 hours of clinical experience in YVMC's medical-surgical department with approved instructors. Each student can then select a specialty area in which to finish 40 hours of elective experience.

Students must have a current RN license or temporary work permit from the Colorado Board of Nursing. To register, or to obtain more information, call YVMC Human Resources Coordinator Dawn LaPlaca at 870-1118.
