Steamboat high to host international evening

Steamboat Springs High School, in conjunction with National Peace Corps Day, will host an international evening to celebrate the international diversity in our area and support those organizations which help foreign nationals. There will be educational and service booths, as well as music, food and a silent auction. The free event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. March 16 in the high school commons area.

People interested in volunteering, either by playing instruments such as the Andean flute or African drums, cooking ethnic foods or providing entertainment from different cultures, are asked to call Nicole Goode at 870-1698.

available for veterans

Veterans can receive information on veterans' benefits by calling 879-3547 or stopping by the Routt County Veterans Affairs Office in Sundance at Fish Creek, next to the drivers' license office. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. Bring your Discharge Form 214 for registration with the county and application for VA programs. Kids younger than 12 can see concert free Thursday

Children younger than 12 will receive free admission Thursday for general seating at the Steamboat Dance Theatre's 32nd Annual Dance Concert.

The concert features shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Steamboat Springs High School Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for reserved seating, $15 for general admission and $8 for seniors and students in general admission seating only.

Hayden library hosts scholastic book fair

The Hayden Public Library will hold a Scholastic book fair beginning Tuesday and running through March 9. The fair is open during the library's regular business hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. All proceeds will benefit the library's children's section.

Writers conference will

feature seminars, speakers

The 23rd annual writers conference, hosted by Steamboat Springs Arts Council affiliate Steamboat Writers Group, will by from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 17. The conference will feature seminars with award-winning science-fiction writer Connie Willis and nationally recognized poet David Mason. The cost is $45 and covers four workshops and a luncheon. Children's health fairs held in county during March

Free children's health fairs will be held throughout Routt County during March. The events, open to children 4 months to 5 years old, are an interagency effort to promote good health. Vision, hearing, language, physical and thinking-skills screenings will be provided.

The first fair is March 8 and 9 in South Routt. To make an appointment, call 736-2313.

The second fair is March 15 and 16 in Steamboat Springs; call 879-0391 Sunday to make an appointment.

The final fair is March 18 and 19 in Hayden. Call 276-3756 after Sunday to make an appointment.
