Girls, boys hoops wrap up tonight

The Steamboat Springs girls and boys basketball teams wrap up their regular seasons tonight against Battle Mountain.

The junior varsity teams play at 4:30 p.m. at Steamboat Springs High School. The varsity girls game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity boys game starts about 7:30 p.m.

Before the varsity contests, the seniors from both teams will be recognized.

There are five seniors on the girls team -- Erin Christensen, Bailey Draper, Shelley Dunlop, Lindsay Stanford and Melissa White. There are four seniors on the boys team -- Devin Borvansky, Nick Monterotti, Kyle Re and Teal Taylor.

Steamboat's girls are 11-7 overall and 6-5 in the league.

Steamboat's boys are 14-4 overall and 9-2 in the league, heading into tonight's game. Steamboat has locked up at least a share of the Western Slope League Championship for the fifth time in the past eight years. If the Sailors defeat the Huskies tonight, the boys will win the league outright.

"We were picked to finish around fourth," Sailors coach Kelly Meek said. "Our kids have really rallied well together, considering the (0-2) start we had. It's been real pleasing to watch them come along."
