Blood drive is Thursday
at YVMC with appointment
A blood drive sponsored by the Yampa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary is from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at YVMC. Bonfils Blood Center will conduct the drive. Appointments are required; call Tosia Sauter at 870-1495 to schedule a donation time.
Volunteers needed for State Ski Championships
Steamboat Springs High School, with the assistance of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, will host the Colorado High School State Ski Championships on Friday and Saturday, just before the high school's midwinter break.
Friday's competition is a giant slalom on Sitz/SeeMe followed by a freestyle 5-kilometer Nordic race at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center. Saturday's races are at Howelsen Hill, with a slalom, followed by a classic Nordic 5K.
Volunteers are needed to work as gatekeepers, hand timers, announcers, starters and more for the Alpine races. Only a few positions are needed for the Nordic race, and several helpers are needed to set up the awards banquet Saturday afternoon. Volunteers for the Alpine races will be given a lift ticket for their workday and will be given a voucher for another ski day at Mount Werner.

Grant-writing workshop offered free Thursday
A free grant-writing workshop led by Dianna Sutton of Yampa Valley Community Foundation and Winnie DelliQuadri of the Nonprofit Excellence Project will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Steamboat Pilot & Today conference room. Attendees, who are encouraged to bring sample grants for discussion, will receive resource materials on grant opportunities and tips for applying to the Yampa Valley Community Foundation for its upcoming grant cycle. Medic First Aid course offered monthly at CMC
A Pediatric Medic First Aid course for parents and others working with children is offered monthly through Colorado Mountain College. The course covers accident prevention, first aid and CPR certification. The cost is $20.50. Call Paul Yonekawa at 879-4530.
Volunteers sought for eighth-graders' Career Day
Volunteers are needed to help with the eighth annual eighth-grade girls Career Day to be held April 13. Volunteer opportunities range from presenting workshops to handling administrative tasks. Call Karen Bomberg at 879-1476.
Girl Scout cookies on sale; proceeds help local Scouts
Girl Scout cookies are available for sale, and proceeds benefit the local Girl Scouts. Residents can place orders by contacting any Girl Scout or by calling Shauna at 870-6073. Cookies will be delivered by Feb. 29.
Art show will run through Friday at high school
The National Art Honor Society from Steamboat Springs High School is sponsoring an art show for any Steamboat Springs High School student who wants to participate. The show will run from today through Friday. The show and opening reception are from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Steamboat Springs High School library.
