Steamboat Magazine, the Steamboat Springs Visitors' Guide, the Steamboat Springs Area Maps and allaboutsteamboat.com are under new ownership. Longtime Steamboat resident Deborah J. Olsen, president of Ski Town Publications Inc., purchased the business from previous owner H. Dennison Parker in January.

Olsen was the editor of Steamboat Magazine from 1998 until 2003, when she was promoted to publisher. Before that, she worked as a reporter and editor for the Steamboat Pilot & Today newspapers for nine years.

She is the author of Steamboat Springs Legends, a coffee table book published by the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association in honor of the city's centennial celebration in 2000.

Johanna Hall named director of ski school

Johanna Hall has been named the director of the Ski & Snowboard School for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. Hall will be responsible for the ski and snowboard school programs, the Kids' Vacation Center, and the area's night programs for children.

"Johanna brings a wealth of knowledge about ski and snowboard teaching programs," said Jim Schneider, vice president of skier services.

Hall, a 27-year veteran of the industry, had held the ski and snowboard school manager position with the resort for the past four years.

Hall has many years of experience, starting as an instructor and supervisor at Vail, moving on to become director of the ski school at Mission Ridge and most recently the ski school director at The Summit at Snoqualmie in Washington before moving to Steamboat in fall 2000. She also served as chairwoman for the Professional Ski Instructors of America National Education Committee in the mid-'90s, wrote the PSIA Children's Handbook and has been published in Snow Country, Skiing and the Professional Skier magazines.
