The Soroco wrestling team fell in Friday's dual to Rangely, but coach Doug Gates said he left the Panthers' gym feeling much better about the way the Rams wrestled.
"That's as good as I've seen them wrestle as a whole this year," Gates said. "We're getting over sicknesses, so hopefully we'll wrestle like that at regionals."
In the Jan. 30 dual at Rangely, junior Whittier Gates (152 pounds), junior Matt Iacovetto (140) and senior Joe Crawford (135) picked up wins. Gates and Iacovetto won by fall.
Soroco has no matches scheduled this weekend, which is atypical for the team, Gates said, but his efforts to get something set up before regionals failed.
"The kids have been sick, so I've decided to play it out like this and give them some time off, and see if they can get on their feet," Gates said.
Soroco and Hayden will be at the regional tournament Feb. 13 and 14 in Grand Junction, while Steamboat Springs heads to Broomfield on Feb. 13 and 14 for its regional tournament.
The top two regional wrestlers at each weight earn a trip to the state tournament Feb. 19-21 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
