Billy Kidd's silver medal anniversary this weekend

Steamboat Springs will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Billy Kidd's 1964 Olympic Silver medal Sunday with the Billy Kidd Silver Celebration including a special fireside chat and skiing with fellow Olympic medalist Jimmie Heuga ('64 Bronze) and their coach, Bob Beattie.

"When you think of legends in American skiing, the name Billy Kidd is at the top of the list," said Andy Wirth, vice president of marketing and sales for the western resorts. "Steamboat is proud to have Billy represent the resort around the globe sharing his joy of skiing and Ski Town USA with millions of people over the past three decades."

To celebrate, Steamboat will host Ski with the Legends of the 1964 Olympics, meeting at the top of Buddy's Run at 11 a.m. Sunday. Kidd and Heuga will join their '64 Olympic coach Bob Beattie and their teammates from the '68 Olympics, Moose Barrows and Loris Werner, for a few runs at the Steamboat Ski Area. The group will ski Buddy's Run in honor of Steamboat's Buddy Werner, who was a teammate of Kidd and Heuga at the '64 Games and star of the US Ski Team. The public is encouraged to join the group. A fireside chat will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the upper lobby level of the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel.
