CBS to air footage of city during Broncos game
There have been many times throughout the years when the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. video department has supplied TV networks with stock footage of the Yampa Valley and the ski area to enhance broadcasts of sports events and other types of programming.
But the advent of high definition television brought a crew from CBS to visit Steamboat on Thursday to shoot footage to accompany the network's broadcast of the NFL football game Sunday between the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos in Denver. Game time is 2:15 p.m., and it's scheduled for a national audience.
High winds result in
lift closures at ski area
Winds exceeding 60 mph prompted the Steamboat Ski Area to close five lifts Thursday.
Ski area spokesman Mike Lane said the lifts were closed between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Thursday and remained closed all day.
Sunshine, Morningside, Sundown Express, Pony Express and the Gondola were shut down after winds of 60 mph raced across the mountain.
Lane said although the closures may have resulted in a few longer lift lines, skiers were able to access all the ski area's terrain using alternate routes.
The winds were part of the storm system that left five inches of new snow at mid-mountain and five inches at the summit.
Lane said it's not uncommon for lifts to be closed from time to time during the winter because of high winds.
