Robert Culver and Randy Muhme each placed second for the Hayden wrestling team at the Mustang Stampede held Saturday in Kremmling.
Culver was second at 215 pounds, and Muhme was second at heavyweight. The tournament hosted by West Grand, which was larger this year than last year, pulled in small- and large-school teams from Northwest Colorado, the Front Range and the Interstate 70 corridor.
It was the final wrestling meet for Hayden before the holiday break.
When the wrestlers return to the practice room after the new year, they will have a two-pound allowance and more wrestlers to add to the eligible list.
Wrestlers must have a certain number of practices completed to be eligible to compete, and several Tigers will be ready by Hayden's first meet Jan. 7 in Paonia.
Representing Hayden in West Grand were: Zed Wheelock (103 pounds), Jeff Dunn (112), Dusty Jones (125), David Blair (130), Tyler Manzanares (135), Chris DeBowes (140), Ray Curtis (145) and Isaac Haskins (152).
The Tigers also hosted a double dual with Soroco and Rangely on Friday before the Mustang Stampede. A number of Tigers wrestlers received byes, but Blair picked up a win by decision against a Rangely opponent.
Soroco's Joel Schlegal (103) pinned Wheelock, and Soroco's Levi Gonzales (112) pinned Dunn. Haskins pinned an opponent from Rangely in an exhibition match.
Hayden's Jesse Drennan, who recently joined the wrestling team, squared off against Soroco's Matt Iacovetto, and much like every opponent this season, lost by fall to Iacovetto.
Culver pinned Soroco's Dennis Morgan.
