After picking up third- and fourth-place finishes in races early this week, Buck Hill's Claire Abbe saved her best for the final race.

"I really had an awesome first run, and then the second run was just solid skiing," Abbe said. "I just got myself pumped up. I didn't ski the top that well, but then I was mad, so I killed the bottom."

Abbe finished with a time of 1 minute, 31.27 seconds. Erika Hogan of the University of Colorado, was second with a time of 1:32.46, and Julia Wong of the Central division finished third at 1:32.99.

"I really wanted to get on top, so today was good," the 18-year-old Abbe said. "I just wanted to make it down (on my second run), so I didn't take any chances."

Former Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club skier Jennifer Shively led the local results with a sixth-place finish. She completed the day with a time of 1:33.84.

"I was decent," Shively said. "I always like coming back because this is my home hill. It's nice to be back at Howelsen Hill, so I can't complain."

Shively is a junior at the University of New Mexico and was hoping to improve her points and pick up some early season experience at the Steamboat races.

Tina Roberts led the current Winter Sports Club members with an 11th-place finish, and her teammate Brittany Bahle finished in 12th place.

Other top Winter Sports Club finishers were Madeline McLean in 22nd and Suzanne Allbright in 25th.

Kathleen Lyon made a strong showing by moving from her 63rd starting position to 34th in the final results. Jennifer Allen started 87th and finished 35th, and Priska Sorensen moved from 75th to 36th in the final tally.

The slalom race was the last of four Rocky Mountain Trophy Series women's events in Steamboat Springs this week.

The women competed in giant slalom races on Sunday and Monday and then finished with slalom events on Tuesday and Wednesday.
