The Tap House Sports Grill

With more than 40 televisions -- including three 100-inch screens -- and full satellite capability, The Tap House offers sports viewing to rival any large city sports bar. Although it features a large dining room and bar, The Tap House retains a small-town charm and comfort unique to Steamboat.
The large non-smoking dining room is a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike.
The bar side has often been referred to as the Cheers of Steamboat, "the place where everybody knows your name."
The analogy always puts a smile on the faces of long-time local owners Dave Daggett and Gary Saxe.
Atmosphere, however, is only one part of The Tap House's popularity.
"What really keeps our customers coming back is our quality food at very affordable prices," Daggett said.
The owners understand the need for families to find a place where the entire family can enjoy a meal in a laid-back atmosphere.
The Tap House offers all the traditional sports grill food -- burgers and fries, battered chicken fingers, onion rings and heaping piles of nachos smothered in cheese with all the fixings.
But the restaurant is equally proud of its real Mexican-style entrees such as the burritos, fajitas and killer tacos. The Tap House has even expanded its Mexican menu this season to include chimichangas and Ahi fish tacos, all fresh and homemade.
And then of course, there are the wings.
Proud to serve the best wings in town, The Tap House offers seven varieties of wings: mild, medium, hot, hot barbecue, barbecue, spicy garlic and the very popular oriental barbecue with local legend Dean Martin's oriental barbecue sauce. The other six varieties of sauces are made fresh at The Tap House.
No matter the season, Tuesday is Wing Day, with 33-cent wings from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Tap House Wing Day is so popular that owners track the sales by weight, usually selling 2 to 3 tons of wings per month, Daggett said.
"Not only is Wing Night a great deal, but it has become a weekly social event in town," Saxe said.
If your appetite seeks more than wings after a long day of enjoying the many Yampa Valley activities, The Tap House has appealing entree choices as well. Take your pick from the ribs, half chicken, tuna dinner, 8-ounce sirloin, 12-ounce New York Strip or 16-ounce rib eye.
All are served with your choice of soup or salad, french fries, mashed potatoes and gravy or rice for $10.95 to $15.95.
A delicious meal is only half of the deal. As supporters of local sporting events, and being sports enthusiasts themselves, Saxe and Daggett have worked hard to create a unique sports bar.
The walls throughout The Tap House display an extensive collection of sports memorabilia to rival any you might find in the big city.
But unlike big city hot spots, The Tap House owns an impressive collection of winter sports memorabilia commemorating and honoring the hundreds of Olympians -- past and present -- who have competed in or lived in Ski Town USA.
In addition to the expansive sports collection, the 42 televisions ensure there is not a bad seat in the house. The full satellite capabilities enable you to watch the sporting event of your choice.
But they go way beyond football, basketball, hockey and baseball. If it is sports related, anything from auto racing and rugby to soccer and skiing is available.
"Our philosophy is to be able to get any sports available by cable, Direct TV or satellite, including H.D. sports," Saxe said.
And as Daggett likes to say, "If it's in the sky, we buy."
The restaurant and bar area also features the highly popular NTN Network, a national sports and trivia interactive game, for free.
While waiting for the meal to arrive or while waiting for others to finish, "kids of all ages" can play video games in the restaurant arcade. The bar area also has a pool table and juke box.
As the restaurant's name suggests, The Tap House proudly offers more beers on tap -- 21 -- than any other restaurant in town. Domestics, imports and microbrews are available at a reasonable price.
Happy hour at The Tap House runs from 3 to 7 p.m. daily. Pints of any kind of beer are discounted 50 cents. Pitchers are 75 cents off. And each month, the restaurant features a different beer available for $2.50 a pint.
The friendly staff will take great care of you, your entire family or your large group.
