Sitting in the generous yet warm great room at Bull Run, one can look out to dramatic cottonwoods and steam rising from the nearby Elk River while imagining a life of unending tranquility.

It's a lifestyle to be enjoyed by the buyer of the fully furnished 7,900-square-foot ranch home, which sits on 35 acres in the heart of the Elk River Valley, about 11 miles from Steamboat Springs.

The property, which includes a custom barn and horse amenities, is on Routt County Road 54 between the Harrington and Studer ranches.

"To me, it's just a huge plus because it's so peaceful and quiet out here yet still close to town," said Jill Bull, who completed the home with her husband, Doug, about a year ago.

The home's "old world elegance" is apparent in the foyer, where a picture window provides views of the west side of the property, which straddles the river and includes between 900 feet and 1,000 feet of riverbank just steps away from the home.

Inviting hallways to the right and left of the foyer lead to living areas, conveniently located on the main floor.

The multi-layer faux finishes on the walls are a warm departure from the usual single-toned plaster. The professional-grade finishes, which vary from room to room and include leather, snakeskin and stone appearances, were a labor of love for Jill Bull, who painstakingly toiled on the walls for eight months.

"The quality of the detail and finishes is just awesome throughout," said broker Joan Shenfield of Colorado Group Realty.

A short and inviting hallway leads to the kitchen and great room areas, which are accentuated by the home's timber framing and vaulted ceilings. A massive moss rock fireplace anchors the rooms.

Around the corner from the great room, a traditional-style pizza oven cuts into the rock in the kitchen.

With two large sinks and dishwashers as well as two islands and top of the line appliances -- including Subzero refrigeration drawers in addition to a full-size refrigerator -- the kitchen is ideal for large-scale cooking and cleaning.

Alder and glass cabinets, granite countertops and travertine tile floors are among finishes in the kitchen.

"It's a really fun house to entertain in and have friends over, yet it's still casual. ... I think I'll miss that the most," Jill Bull said, noting that the home comfortably accommodated more than 20 people during the holidays last year.

A formal dining room, complete with limestone fire place, mahogany bar and 100-year-old oak barn wood floors, sits off the great room and kitchen.

The master suite, formal office, main laundry area and another bedroom are in the private wing of the home. With a coffee bar and large windows offering some of the best views of the property, the master suite provides a cozy place to watch the snow fall.

A roomy and classic-style master bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and steam shower completes the master suite. Like several bedrooms in the home, the suite's large walk-in closet connects directly to the bathroom.

The home has four bedrooms, each with bathrooms and walk-in closets. The home also has two powder rooms.

An additional bathroom sits off of a roomy mudroom leading to the home's heated, oversized four-car garage.

More sleeping areas are upstairs, in an expansive game room that includes a big screen television, air hockey and foosball tables.

"It's the perfect place for kids," Shenfield said.

In addition to covered porches and patios, clear areas bordering the cottonwoods are ideal for volleyball and croquet games in the summer. That is, if visitors or owners aren't catching trout in the river or riding horses through the meadows and willows on the property.

"It's a playground," Shenfield said.

Whether they ride for hobby or competition, horseback riders likely will find everything they need for the sport at Bull Run. The six-stall wood barn includes rubber floor mats, a heated tack room and hay and equipment storage. A three-quarter bathroom and finished game room are on the barn's second floor.

The property also has indoor and outdoor arenas, two loafing sheds and five fenced pastures.

Bull Run is being offered fully furnished, for $5,350,000. For more information, call Shenfield at 870-8800.
