Larry and Cathy Wissbeck: Buried by a berm

I realize snow removal problems are not likely to gain much sympathy here in Steamboat. I spent a good portion of Thursday morning cursing the city policy of piling snow from the street onto driveways. I faced a berm of icy snow some 6 feet wide, 4 feet deep and 15 feet long which had to be removed so I could get my car out onto the well-plowed street. I uncovered my walks, driveway and car with a hand shovel but despaired about the berm.
I did manage to catch the eye of one of the city snowplow drivers by dint of looking elderly, forlorn, exhausted, cold (all legitimate) and perhaps a little hopeful. The driver came back around and took out about four feet of the berm, leaving me with a manageable amount of snow for hand removal.
Hurrah, and thank you! As the driver perhaps was acting illegally, I won't mention a street or address.
Just as a note to other new residents: Start lining up snow removal help in September. Dec. 9 is toooo late. And snow blower aren't just for pansies.
