A preliminary hearing has been set for a 48-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell it.

Barbara Jo Moss, 48, of Montrose and Randy Douglas Cushman, 37, of Craig appeared Wednesday in Routt County Court requesting a preliminary hearing before their case was bound over to District Court.

Routt County Judge James Garrecht set the preliminary hearing for 3 p.m. Jan. 4. Also on Wednesday, Cushman waived his extradition rights so he could work in Wyoming.

The two were arrested Oct. 26 after a Colorado State Patrol trooper stopped them on U.S. Highway 40 near Mount Harrison canyon. At first, the state patrol troopers feared the vehicle was part of a mobile methamphetamine lab, but with the help of hazardous materials crews, they determined there were no active chemicals in the pickup.

Moss and Cushman were arrested on suspicion of possession of meth, possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. Moss, who was driving the vehicle, also was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, having no proof of insurance, driving under suspension and failing to drive in a designated lane.

Moss remains in the Routt County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Also in court Wednesday, Deputy District Attorney Erick Knaus requested more time before charging a 38-year-old Steamboat man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child.

Garrecht granted Knaus more time last week, but Knaus said he needed to get an expert to review the case before filing charges.

"Then we will review the general strengths and weaknesses of the case and whether we should be going forward with prosecution," Knaus said.

The case was continued to 2 p.m. Jan. 26. Garrecht also allowed the suspect to exchange a $2,000 bond for a personal recognizance bond.

The man was arrested Nov. 17 after Steamboat Springs Middle School officials reported information on the alleged assault to authorities. The alleged assault was mentioned during a recent school activity. The assault allegedly occurred more than two years ago. It did not occur at the middle school and was not associated with the school except that it was reported there.
